“STEPPING Forward”

(Workshop for Step, Foster or Adoptive Parents)

Step, foster or adoptive families have a rough go of it.  There are children.  There are “bio parents.”  There are bills.  There are conflicts about discipline, relationships, priorities–you name it.  Just about every couple who enters a new step-foster-adoptive family relationship is determined, “to make a difference.”   You have high expectations.  But those expectations often run straight into kids who don’t want to “adjust,” two families that seem to be like oil and water with each other, and too much to do in too little time.

This class will help you answer the following questions and empower you to STEP Forward:

Areas addressed in class:

  1. How do I help my child feel secure?
  2. How do I build a good relationship with my step-child?
  3. How do we create safe and comfortable stepfamily boundaries?
  4. How do we discipline effectively?
  5. How do I manage a workable relationship with my “Ex”?
  6. How do I support my child’s relationship with the other bio-parent?
  7. How do we choose between our different traditions?
  8. How do we maintain and protect our strong, loving relationship and our family?
  9. How do we know if we need more help? And where do we go to get it?
